Spending the last 25 years or so in Southern California (basically growing up here), I have a huge fascination with snow. Especially since it never snows in sunny Orange County, driving to the mountains and touching snow has some kind of magical effect on me. Vienna absolutely LOVED the short time she got to play with her first snow! As a little girl in Ukraine myself, I have clear memories of building snowmen in my grandma’s yard (well, not exactly snowmen but different animals out of snow — like a snowman body with a mouse head).
In fact, right now as I’m writing this I have a very strong urge to go back and play! Despite the fact that we drove almost 10 hours to try to get to Big Bear on the day these photos were taken just to make a little snowman and throw snow at each other for 15 minutes by the side of the icy road, I’m trying to figure out a way to convince Mr. Bond to take us up there again soon. About that — we were trying to go see our family at their cabin on Christmas Day and the ice and snow was just too much, even for our 4WD SUV. We never quite made it up the last stretch of highway 38 and had to turn around after getting stuck in snow and sliding on ice one too many times. Not much fun with a toddler and pregnant belly, thinking we might spend the night in the car. I even directed traffic around the stuck cars at one point. When we do manage to get up to their cabin we love every minute of it. They keep the driveway clear for us every year by shovelling the snow out of the way so we are thinking of getting them the Powerblanket snow melting mat that will save them from all that shovelling!
This year I strategically gave my family snow gear for Christmas so we could go see snow, haha! We are outfitted to the nines now, so I’m determined to get the most out of it.
My long puffer coat from Bernardo is amazing — it kept me warm and the size small fit my 21-week bump. Love the olive color, although it seems to have sold out; there’s a similar style in a burgundy color.
My real fur pom pom beanie (the pom is removable so you can wash the beanie) is a total steal at $20! Literally go order yourself one or a few right now.
My scarf is sold out like everywhere in this tan color and actually most of the other colors now (I was lucky my little sister got it for me earlier in December for Christmas), but I found an almost identical dupe for less.
I bought my snow boots on Cyber Monday on sale (that’s when I try to buy most of my family’s Christmas gifts because the sales are great and the color/size selection is usually still not too bad). They are so, so good for the snow, and pretty cute with the faux fur trim. I realised recently how important it is to have sensible, sturdy boots for the snow after my friend slipped and fell in it. She ended up suffering from whiplash and needed to use CK Physio treatment (WWW.CKPHYSIO.CO.UK) to help deal with the pain.
Vienna’s coat is from Zara from Black Friday, pom pom hat is from Baby Gap, and snow boots are from Muck Boot Co. When she felt the cold outside the car, she had no problem putting all her snow gear on, which is funny because she’s usually anti-boots and gloves and coats. I got the snow boots in a bigger size and had her wear 2 pairs of socks (one of them wool from Ukraine) so she can wear them next year too; I also strategically got the black so that baby brother can wear them down the line, haha. That’s one of the reasons why I love knowing the gender ASAP!
Mr. Bond wore his new Christmas presents from me — a North Face jacket and Timberland boots. He literally gushed over both of them and how comfy he was in the cold and snow! His North Face jacket is thin but has the same PrimaLoft stuff my Bernardo coat has, so it’s super warm without too many layers.
I ordered my snow gloves, Mr. Bond’s snow gloves, and Vienna’s snow mittens with Amazon Prime a few days before our trip. They were all awesome although different brands and kept our hands dry and warm in the snow. Snowman-making essentials!
Also, this is a silly thing, but I have to mention because I was impressed. I knew the weather would be rougher and we were going for a day trip where I wasn’t taking any makeup to touch up, so I used a makeup setting spray in the morning. Through hours and hours of driving and even some tears because I was pretty devastated that we wouldn’t make it up to see my family (both my sisters were moving/going back up to the PNW the next day), my makeup looked pretty decent, if I say so myself. This stuff works, and I put it on when I know I’m going to have a long day.
I highly recommend all these snow gear pieces for the family. If you’re spending the holidays in snow, know that I’m jealous, ha.
A final point, my friend recently had a car accident in a snow and decided to take legal action. She began her search by looking at similar to Kelly & Associates Injury Lawyers. In the end, she decided to go with a different lawyer and is really glad she did. She got so much support I hear.
