With liquid foundation, I’m always on the lookout for a product that still looks like my skin and feels invisible while improving on any imperfections. Flexibility of medium- to high-coverage is also a plus for me, because we all have those days when we need a little more coverage.
So, I partnered with bareMinerals to try out their new (and first) liquid foundation, bareSkin, available in stores on May 1st. I’m sure you’ve heard of bareMinerals, but up until now, they’re best known for their loose and compact non-liquid mineral foundations. The new bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is a combination of skincare (thus the serum in the name) and a tone-correcting mineral foundation.

I received 5 shades to color-match myself; the full bareSkin line contains 20 shades. Here are my swatches for you:
How To Apply:
1. Shake the contents well.
2. Drop one to two drops of foundation into your brush and adjust to your desired coverage level with additional drops.
- 1-2 for light coverage
- 3-4 for medium coverage
- 5-6 for full coverage
3. Buff onto skin in circular motions.
I went with Bare Nude 09, but I also could have used Bare Beige 08.
Before & After
BEFORE Photo: No concealer, no foundation. Just Hourglass primer. AFTER Photo: No bronzer or blush yet. See below for Final Look. ***ALL PHOTOS UNRETOUCHED*** All pores & blemishes in tact, hahaha.
Do you really need that special bareSkin Perfecting Face Brush?
The foundation and brush work really well together, so I’d say go for it. Since the bareSkin foundation dispenses in drops, the slightly indented ‘fluid reservoir’ in the middle of the bareSkin Perfecting Face Brush seems to keep messes at a minimum. Plus, it’s really soft! Alternatively, you could use the very trusty and affordable Buffing Brush from Real Techniques (just make sure you’re standing over a sink).
The Final Look

My final thoughts on the new bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation… After wearing it all day, I have to say it did pretty well. I tend to have oily skin, and it didn’t seem to look oilier than normal. I noticed that my bronzer and blush applied and stayed on better than with other foundations I’ve tried. I couldn’t really feel that I was wearing foundation, which is awesome. The only slight downfall, which could have been user error, was that some of the foundation gathered in the crease around my nostrils (note: I used 3 drops and maybe could have gotten away with 2). A tip about the brush: use it in a “stipling” motion to avoid streaks.
