Two weeks ago I had a glorious and much-needed massage at Burke Williams Spa in Mission Viejo, California. What made this particular treatment so special and blog post-worthy was the warm oil poured over my forehead in a pendulum motion at the very end. I know, right?!
Originating from India 5,000 years ago, this ayurvedic treatment is nothing new, but it’s brand new to Burke.
Imagine a 75-minute massage to relaxing Indian music culminating with the Shirodhara, a constant and gentle stream of oil poured over the forehead to “create a profound state of happiness and mental clarity.”
As if that wasn’t enough to convince you, it doubles as a hair treatment! You ladies were screenshotting the heck out of my after-photo on Snapchat, so I’m assuming my hair looked pretty good, haha.
If you’re a mama, you need to schedule this for yourself or ask for it for Christmas/your birthday/just because. If you’re anybody with a demanding schedule, you’ve got. to. try. this treatment.
I feel calmer right now as I type this and the memories flood back to me from that glorious Burke Williams morning. Just walking towards their entry doors, you can smell that signature scent and sense a bit of calm coming over you.
Ask for Nikki in Mission Viejo if you’re in the Southern California area. I’m sure all of the therapists at BW are amazing, but Nikki did my pregnancy massage awhile back too, so I guess I’m a bit partial to her.
Here’s what Burke Williams says about the treatment:
SHIRODHARA ‘Head-flow’ — Profound — Flowing — Clarity
This deeply soothing traditional Ayurvedic treatment calms the central nervous system and integrates the mind and body to achieve a heightened state of awareness, relaxation and contentment. The treatment begins with selecting the herbal massage oil specific to the mind-body constitution, or dosha. Guests will be expertly massaged with the warm herbal oil ending with the Shirodhara, a constant and gentle stream of oil poured over the third eye to create a profound state of happiness and mental clarity.
Let me know if you try it and what you think!

I hope you enjoyed this type of post. I absolutely love trying and sharing the newest beauty and wellness treatments out there.
The Shirodhara treatment was offered to me complimentary as a media person. All opinions are my own, as always.
